Description

One of my favorite alpine plants.  This grows in some very harsh cold windy conditions up in the mountains.  It forms mats covering what seems to be bare rock, spreading by woody stems.

To see it in bloom is simply glorious.

It’s a real challenge to get growing, I’ve yet to succeed getting it established in my own gardens, and not for lack of trying.  Some plants just don’t want to live in my yard!  Is it worth the effort, I think so, and I’ll keep trying.
